The Green Bay Packers can, however, claim to be the oldest NFL franchise with continuous operation in the same location, having joined the NFL in 1921 as The Green Bay Acme Packers.
Over the years the NFL has merged with rival leagues such as the All-America Football Conference in 1950 (which included legendary teams, the San Francisco 49ers and the Cleveland Browns) and, in 1966, with the American Football League. This greatly expanded league led to the creation of the Super Bowl, the most watched annual sporting event in the United States.
